Current Practice
Debra has been a partner of AlexanderDorrington since its inception. Her focus is on property matters. Her clients include commercial and residential property developers, large scale property owners, managers, lessors, lessees, body corporates, residential societies and property investors. For these clients Debra puts in place legal structures including trusts and companies, prepares subdivision documentation, assists in sales and acquisitions, negotiates leases and generally deals with a full range of property matters.
Recent experience
- Compliance review in connection with the Real Estate Agent’s Act 2008;
- Sale of a half share of an office building in Auckland to a chinese investor, subject to existing mortgages including negotiation of the joint venture agreement for the ongoing management and subsequent development of the property;
- Acting for AMP Capital Investors in relation to the sale of the Wilsons carparking building in Kitchener Street, Auckland;
- Acting for a private investment trust in the purchase of a commercial building in Nelson Street, Auckland including completing the funding and settlement of the purchase;
- Acting for AMP Capital Investors in relation to the sale of a multi-level commercial building in Lorne Street;
- Acting for Capital Properties New Zealand Limited in the purchase of the Fonterra Building in Princes Street, Auckland including full due diligence enquires and extensive negotiations;
- Acting for a private company in relation to the sale of Fashion Island shopping centre in Papamoa;
- Acting for Capital Properties New Zealand Limited in relation to its purchase of the Centre City shopping centre in New Plymouth including a full due diligence and subsequent lease negotiations with anchor tenants;
- Acting on behalf of a private company in relation to the sale of Fashion Island shopping centre in Nelson;
- Acting for various private entities in relation to the purchase and subdivision of land in accordance with the Securities Act (Real Property Developments) Exemption Notice 2007;
- Acting for Shortland Properties Limited over many years in respect of the ownership of Forsyth Barr Tower at 55-65 Shortland Street, 385 Queen Street, Oracle Tower 58 Wakefield Street, Crown Institute Building 10-14 Lorne Street including numerous lease negotiations and various associated issues that arose;
- Acting for a private company in relation to the acquisition of various tracts of land in Marlborough and the subdivision and development of the land into vineyards including the establishment of various vineyard agreements and grape supply agreements;
- Acting for various private companies in relation to the subdivision and development of land, unit title developments, redevelopments under the Unit Titles Act, and boundary adjustments;
- The regular provision of advice to a residents' association managing property commonly owned by a large number of registered proprietors;
- The provision of advice to a professionally run body corporate in relation to its rights in a complex ownership structure.

- Current elected member of New Zealand Law Society Property Law Section;
- Property Council member and long standing member of Property Council events committee;
- Regular presenter for the New Zealand Law Society including the annual Residential Transactions workshops.

Other interests
A young family, 12th grade soccer, an avocado orchard, some rental properties and a bach in Northland keep Debra occupied during most of her free time but when she gets the opportunity she enjoys live shows, music and opera. Debra loves to cycle, read and practice pilates.
